This year was quite productive, although I have only these few works to show you. It was a year filled with experimentation, a lot of reading and writing, and working in projects I will finish by 2025.
I did my third billboard for Colonia Estates in Monterrey, Mexico. This time the ad was in English, and showed that Colonia still refuses to accept bitcoin like it did in the beginning. The image was generated using AI, edited and cleaned in PS, and then I made the billboard and some postcards.
This year I also had two very cool shows. One named Playa!, curated by Brian Munguía for Killscreen.com in Los Angeles; and a solo show at the project room of La Galería Rebelde in Guatemala City. The show was named Life and Vanishing of José Luis de la Rosa. My proposal consisted in creating a character just as I did for my projects The Swiss Carpenter, and Maxx Giggles at the Friends of Corruption Museum, but this time a rancher in the countryside obsessed with aliens.
I started building him, stating he was a quiet person in love with his animals, which he painted on his spare time. Eventually José Luis starts getting obsessed with the idea of UFOs abducting his beloved cows. Paranoia drives him to the limit, which can be seen in the evolution of his paintings. Things get darker and one day he simply disappears without a trace. Then my gallerist finds the paintings at a little town in Oaxaca and starts managing his estate. The opening night it was presented as a show by José Luis.
I also spent quite a lot of time editing my videos. After 3 years I finally finished my short film PokéChef. If you enjoyed the trailer and want to see the full film email me at estudio(at)cedillo.io . PokéChef is in one hand a critic to the meat industry, and on the other one a critic to the dehumanization of animals, as people tend to be more sensible towards Pokémon than living creatures.
I also finished several videos for The Awkward Truth, I posted for you the two I like the most. I’ll update you next year.
