Summary:

The Awkward Truth is an ongoing YouTube series created entirely using artificial intelligence that explores the cultural phenomenon of conspiracy theories in the age of the internet. The project delves into how these narratives function as frameworks for explaining complex or incomprehensible events, offering a sense of clarity and control in an otherwise chaotic world. Through its episodes, the series not only reflects the mechanisms through which conspiracies spread, but also questions the boundaries between reality and fiction, as well as belief and skepticism. It is attributed to my heteronyms, Jordan Finch and Luke Masters.

The Awkward Truth examines the internet as the ultimate platform for the proliferation of conspiracy theories. The digital age has transformed these narratives into collective efforts. The internet’s ability to amplify voices, connect disparate ideas, and validate beliefs has created fertile ground for the blending of reality and speculation.

The channel features a series of episodes ranging from 3 to 15 minutes in length, each centered on a different speculative narrative. These include the cryptozoological investigations of Elias Stern, in which mythical creatures such as yetis and the Loch Ness Monster are presented as real; Herschel Yerushalmi’s research on prehistoric cave paintings depicting animal abductions; a reflection on the extraterrestrial origins of Pando, the clonal forest located in Utah; an exploration of the myths surrounding the Anunnaki; and the story of Adrian Kalogerakis, a Greek archaeologist who discovers the skeletons of giants. By employing familiar documentary aesthetics, the project blurs the line between entertainment and belief, inviting the viewer to engage with the content as if it were real.

Audience interaction plays a fundamental role in the project. The tension between skepticism and acceptance reveals the dynamic that fuels conspiracy theories, where belief becomes a self-reinforcing cycle.
